Single Vinyl Records

Single song double sided records back in the day were called 45’s. The small discs had inserts called spider inserts so that they could be played on the record player. These were great because if you only wanted to buy the song on the radio and not the whole album, then these were perfect. They cost less than the LP records and sometimes they had extended play on them so you had the instrumental beginning or extra music at the end.

Sometimes there were special edition songs that you could only get on the record. The 45’s were just as great as the LPs. Even today the single Cds are the best. Back in the 50’s they were more affordable than the original 12 inch vinyl records. The single records were sold in plain wrapper with a hole cut out so you can see what you are buying. By the mid 70’s single wrapping had changed, the sleeves of the 45’s were picture sleeves, with the picture of the band on the cover just like the LP’s were sold.

You may be able to find these 45’s around, they maybe more popular than LP’s because they were so popular. They are worth just as much as LP’s to a collector, who knows if you have any at home that may have a song on the flip side that was a Grammy winner or a first recording, you never know.
